1. $950,000.00 settlement: Negligent security – The plaintiff/crime victims were patrons at a teenage dance hall. A fight ensued within the dance hall and poorly trained security guards used pepper spray to control the crowd. The teenager was killed by a single gunshot as the over-capacity crowd rushed from the dance hall to the dimly lit parking lot. The teenager’s parent was shot in the leg as she tried to shield her daughter from the fracas;

2. $2,000,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/ crime victim’s family: Negligent security — The plaintiff/victim was a customer at a local gas station when he was fatally shot during a robbery;

3. Confidential Settlement: Inadequate security – Shopping mall patron was assaulted and beaten after leaving a movie theater. The plaintiff/crime victim suffered a concussion, lacerations and loss of front teeth;

4. $460,000.00 recovery for plaintiff/crime victim: Inadequate security at dance club/tavern situated on hotel premises. The plaintiff/victim was stabbed while in the parking lot. There was a history of numerous prior crimes in the parking lot and there was an agreement between the nightclub and the town that the nightclub would supply security guards in the parking lot. The plaintiff/victim suffered a lacerated liver, perforated diaphragm, hernias and unable to perform physical duties of his employment;

5. $500,000.00 recovery for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security & home invasion – The plaintiff/crime victim alleged there was a non-functioning lock on the door leading to the lobby in the defendant’s apartment building. The plaintiff/victim was accosted by an unidentified female assailant and was thrown down the stairs after her purse was stolen. The plaintiff/victim suffered a skull fracture, subdural hematoma and partial one sided hearing loss;

6. $400,000.00 recovery for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security at a nightclub. Two plaintiff/crime victims suffered stab wounds and emotional injuries when they were attacked by other patrons;

7. $5,670,000.00 compensatory damages award and $10,000,000.00 punitive damages award for the plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security at a rental apartment complex. A twenty-year-old female pharmacy student was abducted from the apartment complex parking lot and suffered three gunshot wounds to her head. The plaintiff/victim suffered brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder;

8. $200,000.00 settlement for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – The plaintiff/victim was abducted from a shopping center parking lot and raped inside her car. She suffered emotional injuries, post traumatic stress disorder;

9. $2,300,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Premises liability & negligent security by landlord. The tenant was assaulted in her apartment during a home invasion, also assaulted in the apartment complex lobby. The tenant suffered an epidural hematoma requiring a craniotomy and fractured clavicle;

10. $165,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – The plaintiff/victim was stabbed while she was in the parking lot and suffered abdominal wounds;

11. $4,200,000.00 verdict for the plaintiff/crime victim: Premises liability & negligent security claim. The plaintiff/victim was shot in the back during a robbery in the parking lot of the defendant Wal-Mart store. The plaintiff/victim suffered permanent nerve damage;

12. $300,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security -The assault and battery on the plaintiff/victim occurred outside of a bar. The plaintiff/victim suffered permanent facial scarring and $100,000.00 in punitive damages was awarded against the assailant;

13. $3,200,000.00 recovery for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – The plaintiff/victim was initially attacked in his rental apartment due to an armed home invasion. The tenant was later attacked in the parking lot and common area of his condominium complex. He suffered laceration of the jugular vein, post traumatic stress disorder and right-side radial nerve injury;

14. $276,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: The nightclub was held liable for negligent security when the plaintiff/victim was hit by an unidentified patron. The nightclub was also liable for to two other plaintiffs who were evicted by bouncers for no cause;

15. $137,500.00 settlement: The plaintiff/crime victim settled her negligent security claim after she was assaulted at a Day’s Inn Motel;

16. $4,200,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – The plaintiff/victim was shot by an assailant in the Wal-Mart parking lot;

17. $3,200,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security & wrongful death. The 32 year-old father of four plaintiff/victim was shot and robbed at a rental apartment complex, died of massive internal bleeding;

18. $2,500,000.00 settlement: Negligent security — The plaintiff/crime victim was attempting to visit her sister at her rental apartment and was assaulted and raped. When she got out of her car in the parking lot, she was approached by two unknown males who forced her into the back of her own vehicle and sexually assaulted and raped her. There were no cameras on the property. The landlord/owner and management company agreed to pay the settlement;

19. $200,000.00 recovery for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – The plaintiff/victim was assaulted in the shopping center parking lot and suffered an orbital fracture and dental injuries;

20. $500,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – The plaintiff/victim was raped in a gated community rental apartment complex as the result of a home invasion. The defendant landlord failed to secure the front gate, had an inoperable burglar alarm and did not provide security guards required by the tenant lease;

21. $445,000.00 settlement: The plaintiff/crime victim alleged inadequate security at a nightclub wherein an altercation caused her to sustain multiple fractures to her face, jaw and sinus, as well as permanent injuries;

22. $603,267.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security in an office building. The plaintiff/victim was robbed and raped in the office building’ parking garage stairwell and she suffered cervical disc herniation with surgery, dental injuries, partial hearing loss and emotional injuries;

23. $300,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security at rental apartment complex due to a home invasion. The plaintiff/victim was raped by the former boyfriend of a former tenant of the same apartment unit. The landlord failed to change the door locks when the new tenant, the plaintiff/victim, moved into the apartment and the rapist had been given a key to the apartment by his former girlfriend-the former tenant;

24. $174,218.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security in a department store. Customer was assaulted by a shoplifter in the store;

25. $150,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security in a nightclub. The plaintiff/victim was attacked by a patron who was allowed to return to the bar after he had been ejected from the nightclub for assaultive behavior;

26. $40,000.00 settlement: Negligent security – The security guard company was found liable to a customer who was beaten in a Safeway grocery store bathroom;

27. $30,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Customer was stabbed in a nightclub restaurant due to negligent security;

28. $43,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security in a hotel parking lot. The plaintiff/victim was robbed at gunpoint in a hotel parking lot and she suffered knee and ankle injuries, as well as psychological injuries;

29. $68,875.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security. An employee of a medical office building was carjacked in an adjoining parking garage and held hostage for two hours by an assailant;

30. $40,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – A seven year-old girl was at the shopping mall with her father when she went into the restroom where she was assaulted by a man who had been loitering at the mall for hours, purchasing nothing and engaging in odd behavior, including crouching on the ground to feed ants;

31. $5,500,000.00 verdict for plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security — The plaintiff/victim was shot and killed during a robbery on a hospital parking lot;

32. $950,000.00 verdict for plaintiff crime/victim: Negligent security – During a home invasion the plaintiff/victim was kidnapped from her apartment and sexually abused by her former husband. The ex-husband gained entry to the apartment by using a ladder to reach her second floor apartment. The landlord’s manager saw the ladder, but did not make any investigation and failed to provide any security at the apartment complex;

33. $4,111,772.00 verdict for the plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – The plaintiff/victim was leaving a D.C. nightclub and was brutally beaten by men who had just been ejected from the club;

34. $260,000.00 verdict for the plaintiff/crime victim: Negligent security – The plaintiff/victim was beaten by inside a D.C. nightclub by a professional athlete’s bodyguard;

39. $100,000.00+ Confidential Settlements for hundreds of plaintiff/crime victims: Home invasion robberies at rental apartment complexes. Tenants were asleep after midnight in their rental apartments, masked gunmen entered the private residential hallways through the unlocked common area doors (gunmen also gain access into rental apartment buildings if such buildings do not have any doors between the common area parking lot and the private residential hallways or if first floor windows do not have the proper locks), then kicked the tenants’ apartments doors open.
